Explosiv jr is based upon the Explosiv screen saver, the latter
features 15 additional displays ( including several beautiful
fractal pattern generators ), a full screen interface and an
equivalent Windows 3 version. See the end of this file for
more details.

RUNNING EXPLOSIV JR FOR WINDOWS :
To run Explosiv Jr in MS Windows 3, copy the files WXJ.EXE, WXJ.INI
and WXL.DLL to some directory on your computer. Then, if you want
Explosiv Jr to start up every time you start windows, just add
the path name along with WXJ.EXE to the
load=
line at the beggining of your WIN.INI file in your windows
directory.
(e.g., copy the three Explosiv Jr files to C:\BIN\SS. Then add
C:\BIN\SS\WXJ.EXE to the load= line in the WIN.INI file, such as,
load=C:\BIN\SS\WXJ.EXE )
This can be done with any ASCII editor (for example,
EDIT, the editor that comes with DOS 5). To install Explosiv Jr
for Windows into a windows group, start windows up, click on
the group of your choice and then pull down the Files option
menu from the Windows Program Manger's menu bar and select
New. Choose a new Item to add, the give it a name (Explosiv Jr)
and the executable name, (as in our example) C:\BIN\SS\WXJ.EXE.
Thats it!
Once invoked, Explosiv Jr for Windows can be altered by clicking
on the Explosiv Jr Icon and choosing the setup menu item. A dialog
box will appear, allowing you to select how long a wait of inactivity
(in minutes) Explosiv Jr waits to start, whether or not you want
it to start at all, and whether you want the screen saver to be a
fireworks show or just a screen blanker (the screen blanker is good
for doing large file transfers over a communications line such as
over a phone modem).
More advanced features can be accessed by selecting the Options...
button. From here, you may select any corner on the screen to
turn Explosiv Jr instantly on and another corner to turn it always
off. Also, you can speed up or slow down the fireworks by changing
the Delay Rate and increase or decrease the number of simultaneous
explosions by altering the # of Objects selection.
Finally, by clicking on the Password... button you can set a
password which will not allow Explosiv Jr to turn off unless an
appropriate password is entered. This is especially useful in
confidential office situations. To invoke, enter a password
in the New Password box (Maximum of 9 charaters in length) and
then enter it again in the Confirm Password Box. Now Click the Accept
button. If you did this correctly, the Accept button will say
Success. If you made a mistake, the button will say Failure. Just
start all over again. To change an existing password, enter the
old password in the Old Password Box, and the enter a new password
as outlined above.
RUNNING EXPLOSIV JR FOR DOS:
Explosiv Jr is a screen saving utility which prevents pixel burn-in
on your computer display. Rather than simply turning the screen off
while the computer is running, Explosiv Jr displays an always moving
fireworks show. As a benefit, you never need wonder as to whether
your computer is turned on or off ( a typical problem with simple
screen blankers ), and you may even find the fireworks display to be
somewhat enjoyable.
This program will not become a memory resident screen saver until
the m<n> command line option is invoked. Without this option set,
Explosiv Jr will simply be an amusing, but temporary display of
fireworks. To install explosiv Jr as a screen saver you must use
the m<n> option. For example, if you wish explosiv Jr to wait 5
minutes before screen saving run the command
explosiv m5
If, in addition, you wish explosiv Jr to save any user-defined
fonts then run the command
explosiv m5 fonts
To have explosiv Jr run automatically when you boot your computer
you can simply copy one of these lines into your autoexec.bat.
Once memory resident, explosiv Jr can be activated immediately
by pressing the Ctrl-Alt-Shift keys simultaneously. Explosiv Jr
can be disabled by pressing Ctrl-Alt-E and re-enabled by pressing
Ctrl-Alt-B. You should disable explosiv Jr if your Hercules
monitor is in graphics mode since no reliable method exists for
detecting which mode the Hercules card is in ( as an alternative
you can use the +on and -on options ).
OPTIONS :
The following command line options can be used to configure
explosiv jr on your computer :
b<n> By default, pressing Ctrl-Alt-B will enable the
resident version of explosiv jr. Use b<n> to
change this hot key with n = 1 to 26. For example,
b1 will change the hot key to Ctrl-Alt-A and b25
will change the hot key to Ctrl-Alt-Y.
cga If explosiv jr does not properly detect your CGA
monitor then use this switch to force the screen
saver into CGA mode.
color Use this switch to force explosiv jr to display
the fireworks in color.
default This option can be used to reset the fireworks
speed to the default value.
d<n> Use n = 1 to 255 to set the speed that the fireworks
move. For example, d1 will result in the fastest
possible motion while d255 will give the slowest.
ega If explosiv jr does not properly detect your EGA
monitor then use this switch to force the screen
saver into EGA mode.
e<n> Use n = 1 to 9 to set the number of explosions that
you wish to have simultaneously run. For example,
n1 will result in one single explosion.
fonts This option can be used only on a VGA monitor and
requires an additional 4K bytes of memory. This
will save any user defined fonts that, for instance,
some word processors might use.
herc If explosiv jr does not properly detect your HERC
monitor then use this switch to force the screen
saver into HERC mode.
mcga If explosiv jr does not properly detect your MCGA
monitor then use this switch to force the screen
saver into MCGA mode.
mono Use this switch to force explosiv jr to display
the fireworks in monochrome.
m<n> This option must be specified if you wish explosiv
jr to become a screen saver. Use n = 1 to 30 to
specify the number of minutes of inactivity that
explosiv jr should wait before saving the screen.
new The new option is used to tell explosiv jr that
the remaining arguments should be sent to any
resident versions of explosiv jr. For example,
if you wish to change the delay factor of a resident
version of the screen saver to 50 then run the
command "explosjr new d50".
off Use this option to disable the screen saver without
removing it from memory.
on Use this option to enable the screen saver after
it has been disabled. For hercules monitors this
option tells explosiv jr to restore the screen to
text mode. For other monitors, explosiv jr will
blank the screen when the monitor is in graphics
mode and run the fireworks when the monitor is
in text mode.
+on Use this option to enable the screen saver after
it has been disabled. For hercules monitors this
option tells explosiv jr to restore the screen to
graphics mode ( page 0 ). For other monitors,
explosiv jr will run the fireworks when the monitor
is in text mode and do nothing in graphics modes.
-on Use this option to enable the screen saver after
it has been disabled. For hercules monitors this
option tells explosiv jr to restore the screen to
graphics mode ( page 1 ). For other monitors,
explosiv jr will always blank the screen.
remove This option can be used to remove explosiv jr
from memory. You may not be able to do this
if you have any other memory resident programs
installed above explosiv jr.
small By default, explosiv jr will reserve additional
memory for EGA and VGA monitors when it starts so
that it will be able to properly save the state for
43 and 50 line modes. Use this option to disable
this feature ( reduces memory requirements by 4K
bytes ).
s<n> By default, pressing Ctrl-Alt-E will disable
resident version of explosiv jr. Use s<n> to
change this hot key with n = 1 to 26. For example,
s3 will change the hot key to Ctrl-Alt-C and s26
will change the hot key to Ctrl-Alt-Z.
vga If explosiv jr does not properly detect your VGA
monitor then use this switch to force the screen
saver into VGA mode.
+video With this option, explosiv jr will consider any
output to the screen as activity. That is, it
will reset its counter each time a character is
put on the screen.
-video With this option explosiv jr will not consider any
output to the screen as activity. If you have
a memory resident clock then use this option
to prevent the clock from resetting the explosiv
jr timer.
NOTES :
- Explosiv Jr requires that you have a graphics card. It will work
with Hercules, CGA, MCGA, EGA and VGA. It will not work on an
MDA monitor.
- Explosiv Jr detects the presence of Windows 3.0 standard and
enhanced modes and will not run ( it won't even blank the screen ).
In this case, you must use a Windows screen saver ( such as the
one available with explosiv 2.0 ).
- If you run into problems using Explosiv Jr with another memory
resident program then you can use debug.com to change the
multiplex number that Explosiv Jr uses. The multiplex number
is a signal used by a program to determine if it is already
installed. If two programs use the same number then there
will be some sort of conflict. The value at offset 4 of
explosjr.com is the multiplex number used by Explosiv Jr.
This should be a number between 192 and 201 ( in hexadecimal
this is C0 to C9 ).
